Meet Axel & Aja! Doberman Pinschers
Our next Bark Squad Bio is on two pups, Axel & Aja! We call them brother and sister because they come from the same family. However, they are actually uncle and neice! Axel is the older of the two and is always so calm and stoic. Aja is the firecracker little sister that runs circles around Axel and the other pups at daycare. Together they are one of the sweetest pairs we have in the Bark Squad. We are so lucky to have them here at Barks and Rec. Q: Tell us Axel & Aja’s story! Where were they born and what made you fall in love with them?
Axel was born in Ocala on January 26th, 2016. We were looking for a black male doberman. We picked him from the litter when he crawled on my lap, bit my wedding ring and swallowed a stone!
Aja is Axel’s niece. She was also born in Ocala on April 22nd, 2018. We wanted a girl and she jumped into my son’s lap. It was love at first sight! We love their majesty and elegance.
Q: How did you come up with their names?
After searching the internet for quite sometime, we decided on Axel: a strong German masculine name.
We got the name Aja (pronounced “Asia”) from Steely Dan’s 6th album.
Q: What breed are Axel & Aja? What is your favorite thing about the breed?
They are both Doberman Pinschers. Dobermans, also known as “Velcro Dogs” are fiercely loyal and protective. They are extremely smart, sometimes to a fault! We love knowing that they are keeping an eye on things for us.
Q: What are their favorite things to do?
A: They both love to play with their daycare friends. They also go to the beach where they play in the surf. Biting sea foam is especially fun. Unfortunately we haven’t found a toy that can withstand Axel’s powerful jaws yet!
Q: Is there a silly or funny story about Axel & Aja that you would like to share?
A: Before we found Barks & Recreation we often went to another local daycare. While there one day, Axel decided to open a fence leading into an adjacent apartment. Therefore giving all of his puppy friends an opportunity to go into the yard. They changed the fence handles after the breakout.
Aja likes to provoke Axel into playing by nudging him with her paws until he’s had enough and relents. She is definitely a little princess, but loves rough housing with her uncle. They are very protective of each other.
Dobermans are an incredibly sweet breed (We couldn’t agree more!!!)
